Aberdeen welcomes the third round of the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship this weekend, as the Station Garage Mitsubishi Granite City Rally roars into action. Local rally ace Stevie Brown will be hoping to not only add silver wear to his trophy cabinet, but raise money for children's charity Cash for Kids.
Brown who currently competes in the British Rally Championship, the UK's most prestigious rally series, will head back to his roots this weekend as he works closely with his media partners Northsound Radio, to raise awareness and funds for the local charity cause. "Cash for Kids work with disabled, disadvantaged and neglected children in the North East of Scotland. If we can raise enough money and awareness to change one life for the better it'll be worth the effort" said Stevie.
On Friday Stevie will treat two Northsound 1 presenters to a high speed ride around the VIP stage, as they take part in the rally challenge. "We've created a mini competition that the two presenters will have to try and compete against each other to be the best co-driver. It's a bit of fun and hopefully it'll help raise awareness of the charity and the event" explained the young driver.
As over one-hundred cars line up to tackle the event on Saturday morning, forty miles of the most demanding forest stages in Grampian face the competitors. "The stages offer a good mix of very fast sections where you have to be committed to your pacenotes, and technical sections where its important to get your lines right. I'm looking forward to the event and the challenges it presents" said Stevie.
When the starting flag drops, Stevie may be focused on crossing the finish line in a winning position. But the reason for tackling the event will remain at the forefront of the young drivers' mind, in his bid to help improve the lives of children in the North East of Scotland, with Cash for Kids.
