Brown to Make Feisty Fiesta R2 Debut for Local Charity

April 2010

Fiesta Cash for Kids

Former 1600 Scottish Rally Champion Stevie Brown will tackle this weekend's (17 April) Station Garage Mitsubishi Granite City Rally behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R2. Brown and co-driver Andrew Roughead are tackling the event in a bid to raise awareness of local children's charity Cash for Kids, as Aberdeen plays host to round three of the Hankook Scottish Rally Championship.

Brown and Roughead will work closely with media partners Northsound Radio as they pilot the Cash for Kids liveried rally car. "Cash for Kids work with disabled, disadvantaged and neglected children in the Grampian area. It is thanks to Cash for Kids tireless work that these children will have a better quality of life" said the Abermed supported driver.

The 43 stage mile event will see competitors race on some of the most challenging gravel tracks in the country. "The Granite City Rally offers a unique challenge as it has a mix of fast sections and slower technical bits. You have to have 100% concentration at all times as 200 foot drops often line the edge of the road, and at these speeds on the slippery gravel surface its very easy to make a mistake" explained Stevie.

With the up to 1600cc two-wheel-drive cars running ahead of the more powerful four-wheel-drive machines, the Millers Oils backed Fiesta will be one of the first cars on the road, and with no previous experience of the R2 Fiesta it could be an interesting event. "This is the first time I've driven a 1600cc car since winning the 2007 class championship, the car has a sequential gearbox and is left-hand drive, so it will take a bit of getting used to" explains the Five Mile Garage backed driver.

When the flag drops the Global Web backed team are however confident they can deliver a top result. "For sure it will be a challenge to master the new car, and judging by the names on the start list it's certainly not going to be easy to win, but I'm looking forward to it!"

As the Oil Capital of Europe is set to be once more transformed into a rally mecca, the North East Specialist Coatings backed crew will race through the demanding narrow gravel stages at breakneck speed in their pursuit of victory.
