Stevie Ready to Rally for Sporting Icon

May 2009

News and Event Item

Scotland's greatest exports is their world class racing legends. A line up of iconic names such as Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Jimmy McRae, David Coulthard and Colin McRae, read as a who's who in the world of competition driving. 21 year-old Stevie Brown will be aiming to one day add his name to this list of racing legends, as he continues his rallying career this weekend (22-24 May) in the third round of the British Rally Championship, the Jim Clark Memorial International Rally.

The Millers Oils backed driver will tackle the two hundred mile asphalt rally partnered with regular co-driver Andrew Roughead. The event will see over 290 cars travel to the event's base in Kelso, for the only event in the mainland to run entirely on closed public roads. "The stages are great, they offer a mix of really fast and technical sections," explained Stevie. The Five Mile Garage supported driver continues, "There are jumps that you can get some huge air on, the feeling as you fly through the air is fantastic!"

The Global Web backed Fiesta crew will challenge for class honours, but Stevie says it won't be an easy victory. "The other drivers in our class are among the best in the country, so it will definitely be a real challenge to win the class, but we will remain focused and try our best and see how we get on."

The event will roar into action over the Bank Holiday weekend of 22nd to 24th May. Edinburgh city centre's Fountain Park will play host to a high-octane rally festival featuring stars and cars from across the motorsport world. Following its official start in the Scottish capital, the rally will progress to rural Berwickshire and Jim Clark's hometown of Duns. On Friday and Saturday legs of the rally, high powered rally cars will complete the super special stage set against the beautiful backdrop of Duns town.

As one of the largest and most spectacular rallies in the country is set into motion, Stevie Brown and Andrew Roughead will race through the asphalt stages at breakneck speed in their pursuit of class victory.
